As 2025 starts us off new releases are coming in hot in January. Many readers including myself have been anticipating the release of series additions or new additions to an author's lineup or even a debut of a new author they have been following for a while. 2025 will be the year for authors and readers alike to flourish. My most anticipated reads that will be released in January on my to-be-read list.
Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
The third book of the award-winning author’s, The Empyrean series. Following heroine Violet Sorrengail in a military-academia setting crossed with sexy romance and the enduring allure of dragons.
The Crash by Freida McFadden
Freida McFadden is an automatic read/buy author of mine. She is an amazing thriller author best known for her The Housemaid series. Her new piece is a snowbound thriller following eight-month-pregnant Tegan. She is fleeing from her collapsing life until unfortunate weather hits. She is stranded in a Maine blizzard with a broken ankle. She accepts help from a mysterious couple but it only gets worse from there.
Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney
From the author who brought us Rock Paper Scissors, brings us her latest domestic thriller. She writes as the tagline, “Wives think their husbands will change but they don’t. Husbands think their wives won’t change but they do.” This new thriller features a baffling disappearance, a devastated husband, a tiny Scottish island, and an even more baffling reappearance. I for one can not wait to get my hands on a copy soon!
Beg, Borrow, or Steal by Sarah Adams
A new romance novel set in a small town in Kentucky! Sign me up! Sarah Adams's latest enemies-to-lovers romance follows Emily Walker and Jackson Bennett. Both grade school teachers in a small town in Kentucky. Both secretly write novels at night. Emily is into romance and Jackson is into mystery. They both hate each other with the fire of a thousand suns. What could go wrong? Passion sometimes burns hotter than hate.
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix
From the writer of The Final Girls Support Group comes his new A-list release on witchcraft. This novel follows a group of pregnant teenagers in an abusive Flordia group home for “wayward” girls. When a librarian gives the girls a book on the occult, the teens tap their innate powers and turn the tables on their oppressors. Sounds like some badass teen witches and a good new read.
The JFK Conspiracy by Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch
This is not my usual read but the synopsis sounded so enticing. I might just have to pick this one up for Dawson and me to read together, being the history buffs we are. The authors of The Nazi Conspiracy and The Lincoln Conspiracy return with another in-depth historical investigation. According to their nonfiction thriller, the first attempts on John F. Kennedy’s life took place in 1960. About a month before he was sworn into office as the 35th United States President. The rouse included a sociopathic postal worker, an old Buick, and an alarming amount of dynamite.
The Favorites by Layne Fargo
A new sports romance that is an exhilarating dance between passion, ambition, and what it truly means to win. Layne Fargos' new novel is an epic love story set in the sparkling, savage sphere of elite figure skating about a woman determined to carve her path on and off the ice. Katarina Shaw has always known that she was destined to become an Olympic skater. When she meets Heath Rocha, a lonely kid stuck in the foster care system, their instant connection makes them a formidable duo on the ice. Kat and Heath go from childhood sweethearts to champion ice dancers, captivating the world with their scorching chemistry, rebellious style, and rollercoaster relationship. Until a shocking incident at the Olympic Games brings their partnership to a sudden end. To the world, they were a scandal. To each other, an obsession.
No Place Left to Hide by Megan Lally
From best-selling author, some secrets just won’t stay hidden in her new twisty new thriller. Brooke believes her image is everything. She works hard for perfect grades, perfect looks, and perfect life until the “incident” threatens all of that. Getting into her dream university and that much closer to a fresh start, she goes out to celebrate with her friends. Hanging out by the bonfire is the perfect way to end the night, but that is not the end. On the walk home, an old truck starts aggressively tailing Brooke and her best friend on an isolated road. Someone thinks they know the truth about the “incident” and they won’t stop until it’s all out in the open.
