The Importance of Skincare and a Routine

The Importance of Skincare and a Routine

You don’t wear make-up, you don’t have wrinkles, you don’t see the need for a skincare regime. WRONG! Multiple studies and science show why everyone should have a skincare routine no matter what stage in life they are at.

Your skin is the largest organ. It is comprised of millions of skin cells, and it renews itself every 28 days. That’s a fundamental biology to take care of since you only get one “skin” in your life. You want to treat it right. A skincare regime can help you do just that. Cleansing and moisturizing are the most important steps in a skincare regime. You can customize the rest of your regime based on your individual needs such as age-defying, evening-out skin tone, acne-fighting solutions, and more. To get the most out of your skincare regime and see firmer results you will need to do the routine morning and night. If you are not looking for a regime that has multiple steps at the very least fine a cleanser and moisturizer that fits your needs to use each morning and night.

Many dermatologists recommend adding an SPF to your skincare regime in the mornings. This can decrease your chances of skin cancer and help prevent early signs of skin aging. It is important to wear your sunscreen every day to protect your skin - even on cloudy days. A broad-spectrum sunscreen will protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays can damage the skin without leaving a sunburn.

Don’t forget to moisturize! Your skin naturally produces oil to moisture itself but it is important to replenish moisture after cleansing your skin. Clean and unmoisturized skin is not necessarily a good thing. Skipping your moisturizer can lead to extra oil production or dry skin. If you have oily skin, look for a moisturizer that works for your skin type. An oil-free moisturizer could be the best option. I speak from experience on this one, do not miss moisturization even if you think your skin is oily enough I don’t need more. You will cause more damage to your skin, so trust me go find yourself an oil-free moisturizer. It might take you a few tries till you find one that you fall in love with but it is worth the process.

When you are ready to add more products to your regime look into exfoliation. Exfoliation refers to the process of renewing the skin by removing dead skin cells. Adding an exfoliate to your regime can make skin radiant and help products absorb better. Exfoliators are to be used only two to three times per week. There are physical exfoliates and chemical exfoliates, each improves the skin's texture and reveals younger-looking skin.
